Conclave is a captivating thriller directed by Oscar-winning director Edward Berger (with Nothing New on the Western Front) and based on the book by Robert Harris. The film plunges us into the heart of one of the world's most mysterious and secret events: the election of a new Pope. After the sudden death of the beloved and late Pontiff, Cardinal Lawrence, played by Ralph Fiennes, is assigned to lead this delicate process. With the most powerful leaders of the Catholic Church gathered in the secret halls of the Vatican, Lawrence finds himself embroiled in a web of intrigue, betrayal and power plays. A dark secret emerges, threatening to shake the very foundations of the Church.
The film will be released in Italian theaters on December 19 and will be distributed by Eagle Pictures.
The screenplay is penned by Peter Straughan and features an outstanding cast: in addition to Ralph Fiennes, Stanley Tucci, John Lithgow, Lucian Msamati, Brían F. O'Byrne, Carlos Diehz, Merab Ninidze, Thomas Loibl, with special guest appearances by Sergio Castellitto and Isabella Rossellini.
